I love the medium of pastel, its beauty, how it shows the quality of light, and what light does in nature, what light does to man-made structures and objects.
I created this blog to give you information about the medium of pastel and to show what I and others are doing with it. Join me for an often unique view of this world, both in the present and historically. I have much planned for you to see and enjoy.
Rick Harder
Rick Harder is an American artist born and brought up in the Pacific Northwest. Rick acquired his appreciation and feeling for Nature during countless backpacking forays into the Olympic and Cascade Mountains. The environments of Puget (pronounced, pew'jit) Sound and Lake Washington played major roles as well. "I was very lucky to have grown up there." After military service, Rick relocated to Southern California where he now resides. Though one might say he is a self-taught artist, Rick is quick to mention the following people for their help and direction: His mother, Barbara, who always encouraged; John Mays Sr. (Boy Scouts leader); Mr. Dale Jordan (4th & 6th Grade teacher); D.Paul Verbre' (personal friend & artist); Larry Gluck (artist & teacher); Richard McKinley (artist & teacher); Jean Dale Glass (personal friend & artist); John Glass (personal friend & artist); Casey Klahn (artist & teacher); Barry John Raybould (artist & teacher).
